These photographs were taken for my new 'specialist' project, which i have chosen to contemplate the formality of Portraiture.
A huge influence on me for this and the project as a whole was Corinne Day who i would view as an 'Informal' photographer as a large majority of her work focuses on unconventional and often explicit works. A particular interest which developed out of my last project was her collaboration with model Kate Moss, where she displays a b&w series of contrasting views of the model who is typically portrayed glamorously within the media. The photos catch the model unaware in deep conversation revealing a much more truthful image.
This concept i have attempted to work with in these images, capturing my boyfriend unaware in a state of happiness, inflicting warm sepia and summery tones on the lower half of the photo fading to b&w, keeping the photograph slightly more innovative yet maintaining a sophisticated manner. The composition provides the image with creative features such as the intersection of the grass. Due to the low angle this photograph has been taken at, the model towers over the photograph dominating the image, his body structure framing the photograph and maintaining the focus as well as providing a dark and dramatic horizon. The processing overall consisted of controlling the lighting, contrast and saturation and inflicting sepia toning and 'bokeh' light textures through use of layers on Photoshop. I feel all the features of these photographs combined create an interesting and overall successful effect in portraying candid photography in a more creative style.
